About Us

BABU is a dog and cat animal welfare organisation in Spain. We exist to reduce suffering in a way that is kind, practical, and built to last. We believe animals need more than emergency help alone. They need prevention, safe care, a real chance of recovery, and the opportunity to find the right home. That is why our work brings together sterilisation, rescue and recovery, adoption, and education.

We care deeply about each animal, but we also care about the bigger picture. If we only react after animals are already suffering, the problem keeps growing. We want to help now and also reduce the number of dogs and cats who end up in danger in the first place. In simple terms, humane population control (neutering & spaying), a style of prevention, meaning solving the problem before it occurs. BABU’s plans describe this as a prevention-first model, with sterilisation and education used to address the root cause rather than only the consequences.

Our mission is simple. We want fewer unwanted litters, fewer animals abandoned or left to struggle, and more animals given safety, recovery, and a better future. We also want animal welfare to become part of everyday life in Spain, not something people only think about when there is a crisis. The business plan describes this vision clearly, saying the goal is to reduce suffering structurally through sterilisation, shelter, adoption, and education, and to make animal welfare part of everyday life by collaborating with municipalities and other stakeholders.

We believe compassion should be matched with discipline. That means being honest about what we are doing, careful with the animals in our care, and transparent with the people who support us. We do not believe in using shock or guilt as a shortcut. We believe in respectful storytelling, clear reporting, and showing how support turns into real care, recovery, and progress. BABU’s brand guidance is explicit that communications should protect dignity, avoid exaggeration, and stay warm, calm, and organised.

Spain’s animal welfare challenge is structural, not occasional. In 2024, Spanish shelters and rescue organisations took in 292,018 dogs and cats, around 800 animals each day, with unwanted litters still one of the main reported drivers of abandonment. Spain’s legal framework is also moving in the same direction as BABU’s mission. Law 7/2023 strengthens responsible ownership, requires adopted animals to be identified and sterilised or placed under a veterinary-led sterilisation commitment, and places clear duties on public authorities to collect, care for, and track outcomes for abandoned animals. BABU is moving forward with a practical model built around prevention, rescue and recovery, adoption, and education, and investor support helps turn that direction into real local capacity, measurable impact, and lasting reduction in suffering.

BABU exists to reduce suffering in a practical and lasting way. We focus on prevention, rescue and recovery, adoption, and education because real change happens when these areas work together, not separately. This is the joined-up model described across BABU’s core planning documents.

We believe compassion should be matched with responsibility. That means caring for animals properly, being honest about what support makes possible, and building trust through clear, respectful communication. BABU’s brand guidance is explicit that the public voice should be warm, calm, transparent, and focused on process rather than drama.

We also believe education matters. When children, families, and communities learn more about animal welfare, responsibility, and prevention, fewer animals suffer in the future. In BABU’s own plans, education is treated as part of long-term culture change, not as an extra.

Our aim is simple. Help animals in need today, while building a kinder and more responsible future for tomorrow. We work with care, collaboration, and measurable purpose so that support leads to real progress over time. BABU’s values and service model consistently emphasise collaboration, transparency, and measurable structural impact.

If you believe animal welfare should be kind, practical, and built to last, we invite you to follow our work, support the mission, and be part of that change.
